about

''Start All Over Again'' is the first full-length compilation from the band QUINTUS. Produced by bandleader/songwriter Reuben Chess, the recordings are a patchwork of songs tracked in friends' apartments, and mixed in between, and underneath the Brooklyn railroads. The collection documents 5 years of the band's life/near-death, and is the long lost follow up to "The Shape We're In" EP, produced by and featuring Levon Helm.

"Quintus is one of my favorite new bands. The boys play with a respect for each other I've not seen in such a young band before, like they've been playin' together for years." -Levon Helm

✰ "These guys are pretty good, and not in the shitty kinda way."
-Scott Rogowsky (Onion News)

✰ "A style that's both tenderly hip and inescapably edgy."
-Darren Ratner (Pop Matters)

✰ "Quintus is, well... Quintessential! I vote for them as The Band Most Likely To Try New Ears On."
-Bob Holman (Bowery Poetry)

✰ "From the jaunty lead-off track, 'Orienta,' to the rollicking 'Old Guitar,' to the honky-tonker 'Night Owl,' to the country-tinged lullaby 'Verses-to-a-Song' (on which Helm plays mandolin), the EP brims over with youthful energy."
-Tracey Pepper (SPIN)

Track Name: Just The Same
Early in the morning and it's starting to rain
There's a nuclear umbrella and a hurricane
So I sip a cup of coffee and I swear I love you just the same
Suddenly the sun is shining everywhere
Did you hear about the suicide at Washington Square?
So I drink a Coca Cola and I swear I love you just the same
Yeah I swear I love you just the same
Yeah I swear I love you just the same
And nothing's gonna change I love you just the same
No nothing's gonna change I love you just the same
Later on we met up on the virtual grid
With the master of disaster and Billy The Kid
So I slake a mocha shake and I swear I love you just the same
Soon enough it's getting dark and we gotta go home
To the bottom of the tunnel where the antelope roam
So I raise a shot of whiskey and I swear I love you just the same
Yeah I swear I love you just the same
Yeah I swear I love you just the same
And nothing's gonna change I love you just the same
No nothing's gonna change I love you just the same
Rock me to the bottom and I swear I love you just the same
Track Name: To The Fillmore East
Over and over again
Me and my phone together alone
I might be crazy but the day never ends
Alone for two weeks nobody speaks a word

And the trucks roll down the street
And the day and night repeat
And this boy just lost his lease
To the Fillmore East

Over and over again
This time last year I just moved in here
Have I been dreaming? (Well I guess it depends)
If this mess on the ground was the wall we tore down (or not)

And the trucks roll down the street
And the day and night repeat
And this boy just lost his lease
To the Fillmore East

Yeah mama circularity is moving me (a turnin' of a wheel)
Reality alluding me (a turnin' of a wheel)
It's certainly unclear to me (a turnin' of a wheel around, turnin' of a wheel around)

Riding down the street just moving along
Following the beat of the same old song
Ain't it hard to believe there's a light up ahead
When it goes over and over and over again
Over and over again
Over and over again
Over and over, to the Fillmore East
Track Name: Hour Is Ours
There's no time to hurry
And no sense in money
50 cents is half of a dollar
And the rest is just a jar of change

The hour is ours
The hour is ours and you can have it for free
And you can take it from me

Don't forget what you learned
Play with fire and you get burned
Mr. Shakespeare signs your diploma
And the rest is just a play on words

The hour is ours
The hour is ours and you can have it for free
And you can take it from me

Yeah cause everytime that you take a little more you get a little less so take what you can get and leave out the very best

The choice is your decision
And the answer isn't given
Take a look beyond your reflection
And what's left is just a point of view

So what do you gotta lose
If everyday is a new day and you can have it
Track Name: Young Man
Young man
Won't you help me try to walk across this crowded street
Can't you see I'm trying to get a little something to eat
Oh can't you see that these old shoes ain't what they used to be
But nowadays well nowadays I get to see and stroll around stroll around the scenery nowadays are our days

Young man
Five o'clock is when I like to take my coffee break make no mistakes I can't be late though I haven't seen a real job since 1900 and 98 property of the state so every month I get a government salary check that keeps me going like a brand new box of cigarettes
Nowadays nowadays I start to dream nowadays were our days

Half as bad is good enough for me, so far for now
And half as far ain't far too much to see so far somehow
Half as bad is good enough for me oh yeah
but half as bad ain't what it used to be

Young man
My loving family left me many many years ago, why I don't know no I don't know, but now and then I get to talk to them on the telephone, and my how they've grown in another time zone grandchildren playing in a distant place, but everybody always tell me that they got my face, nowadays well nowadays I start to dream nowadays are our days

Half as bad is good enough for me, so far for now
And half as far ain't far too much to see so far somehow
Half as bad is good enough for me oh yeah
but half as bad ain't what it used to be

I can't tell if I'm living or dieing laughing or crying
I can't tell if I see the horizon or the stars colliding
All I know is I'm trying I'm trying hard
All I know is I'm trying I'm trying hard
Track Name: Her To Me
I'm in my room and the night becomes the day
And who's to say she's alone she don't need me anyway
I'm back at home she is far and no airplane or sleeper train can

Bring her to me, back to me back to me baby
Back to me, back to me, back to me, back to me baby

Here in my bed I pretend she's lieing next to me instead
She has fled and these restless memories can never

Bring her to me, back to me back to me baby
Back to me, back to me, back to me, back to me baby
Bring her to me oh-oh

Three forty-five, I arrive to find her waiting there for me
Can it be? Is it she or just a memory?
Track Name: What Do You Know?
I was alone until the phone rang off the hook
I should of known the dial tone was off the books
Caller ID and you can see who's on the line
Apparently a call for me is on my mind

What do you know? What do you know?

To my surprise I recognized a quiet voice
So I closed my eyes and let it rise above the noise
It's like when you're talking twice as many minutes to the beat
Or taking twice as much advice as one could keep

What do you know? What do you know?
Tell me what do you know? What do you know?

Open your eyes and feel the sun shining in
Open your eyes and it's a new day dawning
Answer the call when you're out looking for something you can't wrap your head around
And when you open up your eyes, well you just might be surprised what you find there

What do you know? What do you know?
Open your eyes and feel the sun shining in
Open your eyes and it's a new day dawning
Open up your eyes and feel the sun shining in
Open your eyes and it's a new day dawning
And you might be surprised what you find there
Surpised when you arrive
Surprised.. New day dawning...
Track Name: No Reason Why
No reason why
Meadows blossom in the spring
Every kind of living thing
Rivers flow into the sea
Seasons changing over me

No reason why
Rivers freeze without a sound
Life asleep below the ground
Will awaken one by one
When their winter sleep is done

No reason why
Moving on and passing by
When there ain't no reason why
Don't ask me to justify
Cause there ain't no reason why
Track Name: Lonesome Hearted Song
Off, my darlin', on a train for nowhere
Now the lights are changin' and the bells a'ringin'
While your smile is shinin' like the quiet sun, lost and won
Just a lonesome hearted song

Free, my darlin', from the hands that hold you
Now the walls are fallin' and the smoke a-clearin'
While your smile is shinin' like the quiet sun, lost and won
Just a lonesome hearted song

Still your smile is shinin' like the quiet sun, lost and won
Just a lonesome hearted, lonesome hearted, lonesome hearted song
Track Name: In Memory Of
There's a face I remember on a photograph
Of a child in the window on a railroad track
And she's still as a figure of light
Though her eyes are still traveling through the night
And I'll remember to keep you here with me
If you remember my memory

There's a place I remember sailing off to sea
Not a single regret or any place to be
It's a place I've remembered before
On the rail of a bridge above the shore
And I'll remember to keep you here with me
If you remember my memory

There's a day I remember in an hour glass
As the tide pulls away and the sands at our feet rush past
Every wave will remain in my mind
Every day will remain ahead of time
And I'll remember to keep you here with me
If you remember my memory
You'll remember my memory
My memory is your memory
And your memory is our memory
